Sustainable, Original, One of a Kind
HARi is founded and run by me - multi-disciplined artist and solo mum, Claudia Hazard.
I currently live on the South coast of the UK with my 5.5 year old son, Bodhi.
Shortly after graduating in 2019 from AUB with a degree in Fine Art I unexpectedly fell pregnant. It became clear pretty early on I would be doing it alone and although not ‘the plan’ I decided to roll with it, accepting of the fact that life is unpredictable, and with a strong sense of trust in the path I found myself on.
Becoming a mum has been the making of me and everything I do now I do for Bodhi. The name HARi is a subtle nod to him in his Leo form. I want him to have a mum who is flexible in her time. I want to be able to pick him up from school, to be able to let him have a day off if he’s under the weather and not worry about missing work, to be able to pause and play with him at any given moment. If he is to have only one parent, I’m gonna make damn sure I’m fully THERE.
It’s not entirely selfless, I also do it for me. I am an artist down to the bone and I would be deeply depressed if I was not following this call.
I work with a wide range of mediums. I know I probably should put myself in a box and make myself more marketable, but to me that is not what art is about. Painting and textiles are my two obsessions, I love finding ways to weave them together.
With that in mind, I do have a few things that I try to prioritize as my main focal points…
Lampshades:
I offer bespoke lampshades that are either hand painted, or hand stitched using traditional methods (or both). I try to be as sustainable as possible by using reclaimed frames and vintage/second hand fabrics, trims, and threads only. My painted lampshades are made using either a hand stitched shade I have made myself, or a second hand vinyl shade that is in need of tlc. I find so often the cheap vinyl shades just end up in landfill (exactly why I refuse to make this kind of shade from scratch) and painting them is a beautiful way of giving them a new lease of life and increasing their value to hopefully keep them being used a while longer.
I also provide a restoration service for those in need.
Murals:
Your walls can be decorated with one of my bespoke Murals, which are a fantastic alternative to most traditional wallpapers as there is no mass production, no heavy packaging, and the painting process generates far less waste than mass-produced wallpapers. Additionally, murals can be touched up or adapted on the wall without requiring complete replacement.
Window Art:
For the shops, cafe’s, and ‘everything in between's’ out there, your windows can be adorned with whatever your heart desires. Your design can be hand painted, scraped off, and touched up, all without the need for nasty vinyl.
